- Front pretensioners, connected to the seatbelts which pull the occupant back and down into the seat.
- Load limiters reduce pressure on the occupant’s chest.
- Adaptive airbags absorb impact allowing for the occupant’s weight and position, and impact force.
- Lateral and curtain airbags for side impacts (all models except Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet).
- Buckle pretensioner: takes up slack in the seatbelts when an impact starts.
- Lap pretensioner: holds occupant down and prevents submarining (not available on 2-door models).
- Load limiter: reduces pressure against the thorax, shoulders and hips.
- Seatbelt height adjustment: to correctly adjust the seatbelt for the occupant.
- 3-point seatbelts for the 3 seats in the 2nd row.
- Load limiters for the 3 seats.
- Pretensioners for the outer rear seats.
- Anti-submarining hump: prevents the occupant from submarining.
- 2 front auto-adaptive airbags: Controlled vent airbags + Auto-adaptive depending on the impact’s intensity.
- 2 or 4 lateral thorax airbags: integrated into the side of the front seats’ backrests.
- 2 lateral curtain airbags (all models except Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet): protects the head of the front and rear passengers.
SAFETY FOR ALL
Renault takes a comprehensive approach based on the principle of "safety for all". The aim is to provide equal safety for all occupants, regardless of car size.
PREVENTION
Warning – Help anticipate hazards with audible and visible reminders (seatbelt warning lights and tones).
Assisting – Control unintended speeding, with speed control devices (cruise control and speed limiter).
Supporting – Improve driving environment: automatic headlights and wipers, xenon headlights (Optional on specific models), heat reflecting windscreens, auto-dipping interior mirrors.
CORRECTION
Handling – Active safety engineering: ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBA (Emergency Brake Assist), traction control, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme). Roadholding and braking underpin active safety and accident avoidance.
PROTECTION
Vehicle architecture – Vehicle cabins protected by programmed crumpling but remaining rigid in the middle.
Programmed Restraint – Protects the occupants in a collision. The 3rd generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection (SRP) comprises:
The 3rd generation SRP system guarantees ideal protection of any size or age occupant in every seat.
Renault, the only car manufacturer to have 12 vehicles awarded 5 stars at the Euro NCAP Safety Rating.
Euro NCAP is a totally independent body which anonymously purchase cars for testing. And when it tests them, it goes way beyond the already high European standards. A five-star rating is the ultimate. And we’ve got eleven of them, including five of the models available in Australia (Scenic, Mégane Hatch, Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet, Laguna Hatch and Koleos).
PASSIVE SAFETY
The 3rd generation SRP system guarantees ideal protection of any size or age occupant in every seat.

ACTIVE SAFETY
DIPPED HEADLIGHT AUTOMATIC ILLUMINATION
Depending on exterior light conditions (dusk, tunnel entrance, car park).
AUTOMATIC WINDSCREEN WIPERS
Automatic control of setting according to rain intensity (in auto position).
“SEE ME HOME” FUNCTION
With the ignition off, the headlights stay on for between 30 seconds and 2 minutes; activated by flashing the headlights (1 to 4 times).
CRUISE CONTROL AND SPEED LIMITER
Cruise Control – Determines a constant speed that the vehicle will keep automatically, without the driver having to press the accelerator or brake pedal. The system is disconnected by pressing the brake pedal.
Speed Limiter – Makes it possible to set a maximum speed that the vehicle will not exceed. The system can be used at speeds above 29 kph. If necessary (to overtake) the driver can regain control by pressing the accelerator pedal past the hard point.
Parking Proximity Sensors (depending on model) – Gives an audible warning if obstacles are being approached when reversing.
STABILITY CONTROL IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) – Assists driver to retain control of vehicle when running wide in corners or swerving. Understeer control associated with ESP.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) – Prevents wheels locking under severe braking, enabling driver to control vehicle and steer around obstacles.
Anti-slip Regulation (ASR) – Traction control when accelerating (ASR) built into ESP Regulation of engine torque when down-shifting built into the ESP system.
Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) – Ensures brakes are applied to their maximum extent in emergency stops, even if the driver reduces pressure on the brake pedal (not available on Renault Sport range).
Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) – Maintains brake balance between front and rear wheels of the vehicle, even if it is unevenly laden.
Hill Start Assist (HSA) (Koleos 4WD only) – This function ensures smooth take off every time, with no rolling back and with no need to use the parking brake.
Hill Descent Control (HDC) (Koleos 4WD only) – This function allows you to stay fully focused on the job at hand when driving down steep or slippery inclines.
